In 1 Sam. 17, Goliath, the giant of Gath, stood and defied the armies of Israel. David was the only one brave enough to stand and fight the giant. David prevailed against the giant and the armies of Israel prevailed against the Philistines. You may have heard this story be told with the message of having courage to face your giants. There is nothing wrong with using this story for inspiration when facing some kind of insurmountable obstacle, but this message only tells part of the story. We look at David as a young man going out to face this giant of a man who had been a warrior from his youth. To get the rest of the story, we have to understand what gave young David the courage to face the giant in the first place.
In the first way of telling the story, your giants would have to be personal, in direct opposition to you. Goliath was not standing in personal opposition to David but he stood in opposition to Israel. Therefore, Goliath was a Kingdom giant. So, now you should be starting to see that there is more to this story. David took courage because he recognized Goliath as an enemy of the Kingdom of Israel and realized that he was standing, not just against David or Saul but against the God of Israel. So, David took a Kingdom stance on God's Word and in God's Name against this Kingdom giant. David defeated him because he knew that Goliath must fall because he stood in opposition to Kingdom purpose.
Don't just look at things that oppose you personally, but also look at the things that come against God's purpose for you. Look at the things that stand in opposition to God's promise to you. Take a Kingdom stance against those things and declare as David did, that because they oppose God's Kingdom, they must fall.
