Waiting On A Word

The Word of God brought mankind into existence and it is by the Word of God that we receive identification, indication and instruction.
Gen. 1:26
26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
Matt. 4:4
4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
The first human being created by God was a man that He named Adam. Most people do not know that God also called the first woman Adam. Let's see what the scripture says:
Gen. 5:1-2
1 This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him;
2 Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created.
It is very clear from verse 2 that God called them both Adam. They were made from the same flesh because God caused a deep sleep to come upon Adam the man and removed a rib and from that rib He fashioned the woman. The rib bone contains bone marrow and stem cells and within the stem cells is DNA, so God used the man's stem cells and DNA to create the woman and this is why Adam proclaimed "this is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh." (Gen. 2:23)
Adam, the man and the woman, daily walked in the presence of God, hearing the voice of God and operating by the Word He spoke. We come to understand this because after the fall, the Bible says that they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the Garden in the cool of the day (Gen. 3:8). Obviously, this was a normal occurrence because they knew the voice of God. However, this time when they heard God’s voice their response was that they hid themselves. Understand that there is a difference between a response and a reaction. A reaction happens without thought, like a reflex. A response, on the other hand, requires thought and planning. How do we know hiding from God's voice was a response and not a reaction? When God asked Adam where he was, Adam said "I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself" (Gen. 3:10). This sounds like he thought about it because he had a clear reason for hiding. God called the man, the woman and the serpent before Him and gave them a word. There was a word of judgment upon each of them but there was also a word of mercy and grace because God promised a Redeemer in the seed of the woman.
From all of this you can see that the first humans were created by the Word of God, lived by the Word of God and operated by the Word of God. God’s Word gave them identification, indication and instruction. Because we are descendants of them, all humans are need a Word from God in these areas, so we are waiting on a word. If we don’t receive that word from God, a word from another source will fill the void. In the first humans, there was no void, but they turned from the Word of God to the word of Satan spoken by the serpent which introduced doubt and confusion with the question "yea, hath God said…" (Gen. 3:1).
Let's take a look at the words on which we are waiting.
The first word we need is one of Identification: Who am I?
Identification defines who we are. Too many people are missing this word of identification and therefore a definition of self. The reason for this is that we, as a society, have rejected God and His Word. Without the One who gave us life and definition, how can we possibly know who we are? God imprints identification upon humankind and He left behind a blueprint that we are to follow. God has ordained fathers to imprint identification upon their children. Society has rejected the role of earthly fathers and has even rejected the need for fathers.
In absence of the word of identification of God, words from many other sources have filled the void. All of these other words, which are opposed to God and His Word, introduce doubt and confusion just like the word introduced by the serpent. These other words are often opposed to each other. Definition is important because it gives you purpose and if you don't know your purpose, you won't know the meaning for your existence. When you know your purpose you have to decide what you are going to do with that purpose.
Purpose brings us to the next word we need, the word of Indication: Which way am I headed? Which way am I going?
The blinkers on cars are also known as directionals or indicators. We use them to let those around us know in which direction we are headed. The Word of God is our indicator to show us the direction in which we are headed and to display that direction to everyone around us. The easiest way to figure out where you are headed is to look at where you are and where you were. If you find that where you are now is not according to the Word of God, now is a good time to change direction.
Humans were created by God, He is our origin. Many people reject their origin from God and they fill their origin story with something akin to a fantasy. If you believe that you came from an animal, what does that say about where you are and where you are going? What does that say about the expectations you set for yourself or for others? Without God, we are truly directionless and go through life not knowing where we are headed. Knowing that God is our Creator and Originator gives us a sense of purpose and with that purpose we head along a path to fulfill our destiny.
Once we know our direction and are headed toward our destiny, we need a word of Instruction: What do I do and how do I do it?
God us our Creator, He is our Originator and He is our Identifier. God is the one that indicates our direction in life and it is in and through His Word that we find instruction. It is that instruction that keeps us on the correct path and in the right direction. As long as we hear and receive a Word from God, we will be built up and sustained. If we reject the Word of God and choose to hear and receive any word that is opposed to God's Word, then we are going to be broken down and torn apart. The Word of God is not some ancient book of fables and stories as some claim, but it is God's living love letter providing instruction to give us the way to eternal life and to help us navigate through this earthly life.
Heb. 4:12
12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
All of us are waiting on a word. Whose word will you receive?
